Fashion can empower or de-power us.
One of the core values at Ro & Be is to create garments that empower us all.
I’m sure you have noticed in your own clothing or when trying on that some items make you or your child feel restricted in movement or self conscious.
I have also experienced 2 pregnancies and 3 years of breast feeding. There have been moments during these times that I have felt I could not leave the house due to my clothing. Owning nothing that comfortably covered my bump or staying in place over it or something suitable for the occasion I could confidently nurse in.
I’ve noticed when dressing my girls or seeing other little ones play the hinderance clothing can cause, most often for little girls, setting them back in risky play and physical exploration against boys.
All these moments have made me feel so frustrated! So I absolutely had to consider them in my designs.
It is in the cross sections of our lives that we create something unique.
What have I learnt and will do differently at Ro & Be?
What I will add for the little ones:
Pockets!
Comfort fit.
Bold and inspiring fabrics.
I don’t offer dresses and skirts for crawling and new to exploring ages. Instead there is a shorter version to wear as a top and I’m working on culottes as an option. Dresses restrict being able to climb and learning to walk, they get under knees and feet.
Non dress options for flower girls. They don’t all feel comfortable in a dress, I’m working on some exciting alternatives!
What I will include for the adults:
Pockets!
Space for bumps, bloating, weight fluctuations.
Adjustability.
Versatility.
Comfort fit.
Breathable/Non sweaty fabrics (no polyester, no recycled polyester).
Breast feeding options or adaptable for.
Inclusivity - it’s a journey to me but I want to be inclusive and I’m open and receptive to new learning.
I want to support women and children wider than through clothes. So each month a donation from profits of at least 5% goes to a charity supporting women and/or the climate crisis.
Currently I am supporting Agenda Alliance.
Agenda Alliance exists to make a difference to the lives of women and girls who are at the sharpest end of inequality. We advocate for women and girls who have multiple, complex needs that are not being met. We believe that all women and girls can thrive.
